Mother Exchanges Her 2-Months-old Baby for Rice,Cement,and N200,000 In Imo State
A 20-years old woman has been paraded by the Imo state police command for exchanging her 2 months old baby for rice,6 chairs ,Cement and the sum of N200,000.
We gathered the woman,Chioma fidelis,confessed that she got married out of weldlock and sold the baby she could not afford to feed her baby.
Chioma,a native of Ehime Mbano local government of Imo state, said she had no option than to accept the offer because the baby was suffering from deficiency kwashiorkor, and could not afford to feed the baby well.
A female accomplice,one chidimma unakalamba,who was paraded with fidelis confessed to selling the baby to a couple Mr. and Mrs. Jonas Anyawu,who allegedly wanted a male child.
Unakalamba, confessed to sold the baby for the sum of N600,000.
Though the baby was recovered from the couple,a mild drama ensued between fidelis and unakalamba when the couple insisted that they paid N700,000 for the child.
Unakalamba then admitted she deducted N137,000 she spent on the child's medical bills and that she give his mother N200,000 and pocketed the remaining.
Meanwhile,the Nigeria army has announced the arrest of some suspected child traffickers in yobe state on Friday,June 16.
According to army spokesman Brigadier Sani Usman kukasheka,the traffickers were conveying a total of 19 kids to Yobe and Borno states.
A statement by Usman said the offenders have been handed over to the National Agency for the prohibition of Trafficking in persons NAPTIP for proper punishment.
