The wife of a Saudi Arabian blogger sentenced to 1,000 lashes for insulting Islam has said crowds were cheering like they were at a beach party as he was publicly flogged.  Raif Badawi, 33, was sentenced to ten years in prison and corporal punishment in 2014, and the first 50 of his lashes which his wife says nearly killed him was filmed.   She is now petitioning for the newly-instated Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia to pardon her husband, urging Saudi ally UK  and Prime Minister Theresa May to put pressure on the Arab state.

A team of federal special anti robbery squad F Sars on Wednesday, August 30, along Ikot-Ekpene road, Aba intercepted one L300 Mitsubishi Bus with Reg. No. KT 126 KST conveying 24 pieces of Solar Batteries and two gas cylinders with its hose. They arrested the driver identified as Ifeanyi Jacob, a member of the gang that recently robbed an MTN Mast in Ohanze village Obi-Ngwa LGA of the state. The security man attached to the Mast, Brown Ohia was attacked during the robbery. Effort is on to apprehend other members of the gang.

According to KwaDabeka police spokesperson Captain Mazwi Mbatha, the man who is based at the Inanda Cluster was in one of the offices with Mthembu at the KwaDabeka police station when they heard her screaming for help and asking for forgiveness. We then heard about four gunshots and rushed into the office, and unfortunately they were declared dead on scene,said Mbatha. Although the staff has been counselled, the situation is still very tense at the station. We have had lots of people coming in and out since the incident happened. Mthembu was described as a bubbly people’s person who respected her job. A young female constable was brutally murdered by her lover, also a police officer at KwaDabeka Police Station in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa on Tuesday 29 August. Nontuthuko Mthembu, who started working as a police officer last year, was allegedly shot and killed by her boyfriend before he turned the gun on himself.

16 people have died and 24 others have been rescued after a residential building collapsed in Mumbai, India this morning making it the third building collapse in Mumbai in less than a month. Rescue officials on site say at least 10 people are still trapped in the six-storey building located in the densely populated Bhendi Bazaar area which is believed to be about 100 years old. Ambulances, fire engines and members of the disaster relief force are still working at the site.
