For over 400 years the Old Bridge in Mostar united the east and west of the city. For centuries, the men of Mostar competed in jumping and diving off the bridge as part of the local tradition. The bridge has always been the symbol of Herzegova region's Mostar, the most multi-ethnic city in former Yugoslavia. But on November 9, 1993, the unthinkable happened. After Croatian military forces had fired more than 60 projectiles at the bridge, the old stones finally gave way and collapsed into the deep Neretva River. Residents were in shock. On Wednesday the appeals chamber at the UN's International Criminal Tribunal for former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague upheld its first-instance verdict and sentenced six former Bosnian Croat military and political officials to 111 years in prison.Croatia's then defence minister Gojko Susak and former Croatian chief of general staff, Janko Bobetko, also participated in the JCE. VIDEO M.I Diss battle involving NAS as '' unfortunate''

Image
M.I and his music Imprint are going into a legal war with American hip-hop artiste NAS for a breach of contract. M.I has now confirmed this and described the situation as "unfortunate." M.I told Entertainment News on Channels TV that Chocolate City Music paid NAS a huge sum for a verse that was never received. The No. 1 African rapper said he has no idea how the information that he's suing NAS got out there because it was never his intention, but he admits it is true that NAS failed to deliver on his part of the bargain and he's being sued.  "We paid a good amount of money to get a verse. In technical terms, we send us an MP3 that merged verse and the beat. So what we'll need is to get a verse that is called a Stem file, so we can use it and we never got that. And we've tried and tried and tried to reach out to them, so let the laws handle their thing," M.I said. "NAS is one of the greatest of all time. It's sort of unfort

US calls on Germany to cut diplomatic ties with North Korea

Image
The United States has asked countries that still have diplomatic relations with North Korea to break those ties, citing Germany in particular. Sweden and Britain also currently have representation in the reclusive state. In its latest push to isolate Pyongyang, Washington urged on Wednesday for countries to take action against North Korea and break diplomatic ties with the reclusive state if they still have them. US State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said cutting ties and reducing the number of "guest workers" would put pressure on North Korea to end its nuclear weapons program. Early on Wednesday, North Korea launched a new type of long-range intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) called a Hwasong. The spokeswoman noted that the German government had been helpful in combatting North Korea's "guest worker" system, wherein forced laborers work in foreign countries and allegedly send back money that ends up helping leader Kim Jong Un'

An Israeli court on Wednesday sentenced three Palestinians to life in prison over a gun attack that left four people dead at a popular Tel Aviv nightspot in 2016. Cousins Mohammad Makhamrah and Khaled Makhamrah, the gunmen, and accomplice Younes Zein were found guilty last month of four counts of murder and 41 counts of attempted murder over the June 2016 attack at Sarona Market, a restaurant and shopping complex. On Wednesday, the Tel Aviv district court sentenced each to four consecutive life sentences, one for each death, and an additional 60 years for the 41 counts of attempted murder. The three were also ordered by the court to pay the families of the deceased and wounded compensation, the sentencing read. Emmanuel Macron has vow to make FRENCH a world language

Image
Native French speakers comprise little more than 1 per cent of the world’s population, leaving it 18th in the global league table beside Korean and the Indian language Marathi. But President Macron, well known for his ceaseless political ambition, has turned his attention to making French the first language of Africa and even the most spoken tongue in the world. The president forecast a radiant future for the language in a lecture to students in Burkina Faso on a tour to bolster ties with the former French west African colonies, home to the world's fastest-growing population of French-speakers. French no longer belongs to France, Mr Macron said in a hymn to the unifying power of the language, a theme sounded by the country’s

SA prepares to test new AIDS vaccine targeting multiple strains

Image
SA has begun enrolling women in a clinical trial to test an experimental HIV vaccine developed by Johnson & Johnson subsidiary Janssen Pharmaceuticals, which scientists hope will offer protection against multiple strains of the disease. Over the coming months 2,600 HIV negative sexually active volunteers will receive the candidate vaccine or a placebo, and scientists will compare the infection rates between the two groups over three years. Twenty clinical trial sites will be located in SA, and others are planned for Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe pending regulatory approval, said the study’s co-chair, Kathy Mngadi, a senior scientist at the Centre for the AIDS Programme of Research in SA (Caprisa). It was important to test HIV vaccines in the communities most in need, she said, noting that 43% of the 1.8million new HIV infections in 2016 took place in eastern and southern Africa, with women and girls disproportionately affected. Prince harry, meghan markle to be deployed as commonwealth envoys

Image
British newspapers are reporting Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are to be deployed as Commonwealth super envoys, visiting countries that Queen Elizabeth II feels no longer able to. Her Majesty’s long haul travel has been severely cut back since she turned 90 and it’s thought she is keen to use the newly engaged couple’s popularity to strengthen Commonwealth ties. Since the announcement of the engagement between the queen’s grandson Prince Harry and his girlfriend Meghan Markle, attention has begun to focus on what roles they might play in the royal family. One suggestion is that Markle, with her African American background, would be ideal to strengthen Commonwealth ties across South Africa, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. It’s thought that the monarchy is keen to capitalise on the pair’s immense popularity to cement links and trade deals. It’s known that the 91-year-old queen is unlikely to make any or many future long haul flights, so devolving some of the responsibil

Mkhize says ANC elective conference not about ‘dying for positions’

Image
The ANC’s elective conference is not about electing a new party president‚ it’s about preparations for winning the 2019 elections with a “good majority”. That is according to ANC treasurer general Dr Zweli Mkhize‚ who said: “In 2019 the ANC is back in power and in charge.” Mkhize addressed about 200 party supporters in the Rabie Ridge Community Hall in Midrand on Wednesday evening. He is one of the presidential hopefuls aiming to take over from President Jacob Zuma in December. “We will emerge from the conference united and strong. We’ll make sure that those who are trying to divide us are disappointed‚” he said. Infighting and court battles have overshadowed the lead-up to next month’s conference. The High Court in Bloemfontein on Wednesday declared 29 branch general meetings unlawful and irregular. This might lead to the ANC provincial conference in the Free State not taking place this weekend. The ANC Free State provincial general council on Tuesday nominated Nkosazana D

Meek Mill is facing more legal troubles asked a judge to drop the Ward lawsuit

Image
Just weeks after he was sentenced to up to four years in prison, the Philly rapper was slapped with a wrongful death lawsuit stemming from a December 2016 shooting. The incident occurred during a Meek concert in Wallingford, Connecticut, where Jaquan Graves, 20, and Travis Ward, 30, were fatally shot. According to TMZ, Graves’ family is suing Meek and Roc Nation for unspecified damages. The plaintiffs claim Meek and the entertainment company should be held accountable for Graves’ death, as they "allowed thugs to remain on the premises, after exhibiting disorderly, disruptive, argumentative, angry and/or agitated behavior toward patrons." The family of the second victim, Ward, filed a similar lawsuit against Meek and the concert venue earlier this year. They argued the Toyota Oakdale Theatre was not properly staffed with security on the night of the deadly shooting. The family claims the venue should’ve prepared for potential violence, considering Meek’s music. &quo
