Real Madrid down at Santiago Bernabu

Image
Stuttering La Liga champions Real Madrid slumped to a second defeat in three league games by losing 0-1 at home to Villarreal on Saturday. Madrid’s hapless title defence continued on a rain swept Saturday at a sparsely attended Santiago Bernabeu. Zinedine Zidane’s side dominated the game but succumbed to an 87th minute strike from Pablo Fornals, who chipped over goalkeeper Keylor Navas on the rebound. This was after a lightning quick counter-attack as the visitors cleared a Real corner. Madrid had a penalty appeal waved away in the first half when visiting defender Alvaro Gonzalez appeared to block a shot from Gareth Bale with his arm. Cristiano Ronaldo was thwarted from close range on the stroke of halftime by a breathtaking save from Villarreal goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo. “There is no explanation for this,” Zidane said. “We did everything we could, we had plenty of chances, but the ball just didn’t go in. It’s a difficult moment for us. It’s tough for the players, they

Lagos govt. bans cart pushers

Image
The Lagos State Government on Saturday banned cart pushers and wheelbarrow operators, saying their activities are inimical to the environmental cleanliness of the state. The Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tunji Bello, made this known in a statement in Lagos. Bello said that with the flag off of the Cleaner Lagos Initiative (CLI), the continuous activities of cart pushers would pose a threat to the success of the initiative. He said investigations had revealed that the cart pushers were responsible for most of the illegal dumping of waste in canals and road medians at night which causes flooding. Bello said that aside from constituting environmental nuisance, they also constitute security threat. “What the state government has discovered is that these people use the night to perpetrate all sorts of dastardly acts. “They dump refuse indiscriminately on the median of major roads and highways. “They also pose serious security threats because they use those carts to

No one seemed ready to confront this taboo subject then, nor was I.” After describing the alleged abuse in graphic detail, Dushku wrote, “Why speak out now? I was 12, he was 36. It is incomprehensible. Why didn’t an adult on the set find his predatory advances strange that over-the-top special attention he gave me. Fairly early on he nicknamed me ‘Jailbait’ and brazenly called me by this name in a sick flirty way in front of others at the time, I remember asking one of my older brothers what it meant.” She contin

Image
Antonio Conte's problems mounted as spluttering Chelsea were held to a dour 0-0 draw by 10-man Leicester City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. Chelsea remain third 15 points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City and have now drawn their last four matches in all competitions. Trump issues stay of execution for Iran nuclear deal

Image
US President Donald Trump announced Friday he would not reimpose nuclear sanctions on Iran, keeping a landmark 2015 deal alive for now. The Republican leader grudgingly agreed to sign sanctions waivers, ensuring Washington will live up to its commitments for another 120 days, but he cautioned it would be for the last time. During that four month period, he wants Congress and America's main European allies to draw up a new deal without negotiating with Tehran to replace the disastrous flaws in the current agreement. Despite my strong inclination, I have not yet withdrawn the United States from the Iran nuclear deal, Trump said in a statement. "Instead, I have outlined two possible paths forward: either fix the deal's disastrous flaws, or the United States will withdraw." The new deal which Trump envisions as being outlined in US law and involving Britain, France and Germany would impose tougher controls on Iran if sanctions relief is to continue. In partic
